To become a certifier in NSW, you must apply to the Building Professionals Board and:
- demonstrate you have the required knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience set out in our accreditation scheme
- demonstrate you are a fit and proper person
- provide evidence of having the required professional indemnity insurance (unless you are a council employee covered by the council’s insurance)
- pay an accreditation fee.
The accreditation scheme sets the criteria to be an accredited certifier in NSW and explains the assessment process. It also establishes a code of conduct and an annual program of continuing professional development. Some accreditation requirements (such as insurance) differ, depending on whether you work for a local council or for a private business or accredited body corporate.
